LASIK

What Is LASIK?

Modern LASIK is a two step process that uses cool temperature lasers to gently reshape the inner layer of the cornea and adjust the focusing power of the eye. Modern LASIK is completed in 10 minutes or less. To ensure optimal patient comfort patients are given a relaxing medication by mouth and numbing eye drops are applied before and during the procedure. The first step is creating an ultra thin flap using an intralase laser allowing Dr. Lee to access to the inner layers of the cornea that need to be reshaped. To do this we use special technology to build pressure on the eye. Some technologies can take over 60 seconds to accomplish this, but at CS LASIK Institute you will be very happy to know this process only takes 13 seconds per eye. The less amount of time pressure is required to be placed on the eye the better. We invested in the most advanced LASIK technology which greatly reduces the amount of time the eye is under pressure. After the flap is created Dr. Lee will continue with the procedure. During the second portion of the process you are asked to focus on a blinking red light while your cornea is gently reshaped to correct for your prescription using an excimer laser. Most treatments are completed within 5-60 seconds per eye. Once this final stage of the laser procedure is completed the flap is carefully repositioned back into place (without using suture or glue) and your LASIK procedure is finished.

Why have LASIK?

Modern LASIK provides patients with a quick recovery and minimal time away from work or daily activities. Discomfort after LASIK surgery is usually mild and short term. Many patients even report beginning to see normally within several hours after the procedure. Vision quality and clarity will continue to improve as the cornea heals over time. LASIK has been proven to be safe and effective in multiple clinical studies and is the most common elective eye surgery procedure performed in the US.

Who should have LASIK?

Modern LASIK at CS LASIK Institute is FDA approved to correct myopia (nearsightedness) and hyperopia (farsightedness) with or without astigmatism. Patients age 18 and over with a stable prescription for at least one year prior to treatment without uncontrolled systemic diseases are often candidates for LASIK. Your individual treatment needs and candidacy are carefully evaluated during a thorough complimentary consultation at our facility. Once you are deemed to be a great candidate for modern LASIK, surgery can usually be completed within a few days or short weeks of your initial consultation appointment.
